moon landing/take-off

07/23/2008 1:06 PM

how did the moon lander take off with the astronauts since there is no runway and the air is too thin ( I suppose) for helicopter-like craft on the moon.

The landing craft had it's own rocket to use to regain lunar orbit. It did not use wings like an airplane or helicopter. It took off just like a model rocket (or the bullet from a gun) takes off.
