Dowty Hydraulic Gear pumps

10/03/2006 11:17 AM

Our factory have been supplying these pumps on equipment that we sell worldwide, however I have discovered that the configuration of these pumps are wrong. In order to change rotation the body have to be turned around. In a lot of cases this was done without changing the internal valves around, so that the pressure side lubricated the shafts. What I discovered is that as pressure increased the shafts got pinned and subsequently the coupling (neoprene), broke. Is there anyone that has a schematic for these pumps?

hi Oyvind, "In order to change rotation the body have to be turned around." Can I ask why exactly do you have to turn the body to change rotation on a gear pump? Thanks, Paul

External gear pumps can be reassembled to clockwise or counterclockwise... but you have to be very careful that when you change the rotation, some parts have to be re-oriented so that the drain passage is oriented/connected to the inlet... else most commonly the shaft seal burst/leaks. The gears and gear plates are identical but there is a slotted passage from the inlet to the bearing lubrication.
