Another Triangle Challenge (with a twist)

10/04/2008 4:30 PM

Ok, the triangle challenges are fun, but the ones I've seen are based on a upward pointing equilateral triangle divided into subsections. To make one a bit more challenging, I've decided to do this:

So, how many triangles can you find?

count?

my god, it soon make you dizziness and giddness. you will confuse soon.

I try to do like this, 1+3+9+

--------------...........1+3+9+

-------------................1+3+9+

-------------.............................3x2+1

.............................----------------------

= 55

its only a n estimation value, it may belong to a issue of number theory. and Im out of door to this subject.

as to the top thread, you can work out like this.

count all points, use composition method ( every 3 points from N points) C83- 2x4 -7=

Well, Kilgore Trout, Keywalker, and cnpower get to share the great big no-prize!

Here's the visual solution I worked up, in a more typical orientation:

I began by showing triangles formed by a single section, then 2 sections, etc, until all that was left was the main triangle.

The winners can pick up their no-prize on the 2nd Tuesday of next week, of course, after paying a small processing fee.
