Shunt Trip on MCCB

10/20/2008 6:44 AM

hi all,

i want to know more specificly about how to install and operate shunt trip for mccb (low voltage cb). because so far, i only ever seen mccb operating by handle (manually).we use hand to rotate that mccb. and for ACB, i have known that ACB can operate by push the button to open/close the tripping coil.
my question is can we operate mccb automaticly like we do to ACB? may be use shunt trip?

Best to put this question to your breaker supplier. They will have the technical manuals and sales engineers to interpret them for you.

A shunt trip will only turn MCCB off. It will not turn it back on. I am not aware of an add on accessory that will convert a manual CB to automatic. Also shunt trips are used as safety devices to interupt power in the event of an emergency. They are therefore only rated for intermittent duty. Short of purchasing expensive ACB you can convert unit to breaker/contactor combo. This will give you flexibilty of control options.

Shunt trips are used for remote controling of the breaker.

The breakers will have spring, Closing coil, and motor to operate automatically. It does replace the manual charging of the spring. You need to provide addtional control voltage for closing or tap the control voltage from Bus before this breaker.

Anyway it is better to talk to supplier for complete and exact details on upgrade
