Chemical Composition of Various Steel Grades

10/17/2006 12:59 AM

I am looking for information on the chemical composition of ASTM A615/A615M-06a of Grade 40, Grade 60, and Grade 75 Steel. Where can I find this information?

I think that the ASME Code will help you.

NO, ASME is the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Their codes deal mainly with pressure vessels and mechanical devices.

You will probably find what you are looking for in the Metals Handbook published by ASM, the American Society for Metals. Another good reference is THE KEY TO STEEL .

There is an abstract of the ASTM standard cited on the ANSI website, as well as a shopping cart to purchase a copy of the complete standard. However, ASTM is more of a mechanical and functional standard (how to test the strength) than it is a chemical reference. The abstract references AISI and SAE alloys that can be used to meet the standard, if certain alloying elements are added. A good reference for AISI steels is MetalInfo.com.

You could have found most of this information simply by putting your key words into Google!
