	The current EPA deposition is to clean-up landfill gas by filtering contaminates allowing use as clean green fuels and then incinerating the captured halogenated contaminate?? Nothing that emits dioxins can be considered green renewable energy; technologies which do not create pollution in the process. #1 What is the best way to manage landfill gas? #2 How should green renewable energy be produced from landfill gas? __________________ If death came with a warning there would be a whole lot less of it.

	1) Landfills are a waste management strategy that is quickly becoming unviable for a variety of reasons, least of which is outgassing. Try to get a license to locate a new landfill... 2) Most promising technology (although still somewhat questionable regarding some polutants) is plasma inceneration, which can be designed to produce such things as metal and glass billets of varying quality, fuel gas (I don't know for sure if we are talking methane, or some other heavier fuel gas), and about 1/50th of the solid waste, which can either be buried or turned in to a component of building materials. 3) With appropriate management, one may find that this technology makes it more economical to dig up old dumps and burn the contents, rather than trying to mitigate such problems as outgassing in situ. 4) Since when has logic been a requirement of bureaucratic decision making?

	Good points cwarner7 11, I'd thought to comment of cleaning out the old landfills, in the "Simple energy saving ideas that don't cost anything" thread compared to the pay later conceptualisation. May it be standards for landfill development are in transition prohibiting decision of the governing bodies; ironically that is wisdom. Future landfills and we do need them, esentially should be digesters. __________________ If death came with a warning there would be a whole lot less of it.

	We could add the halogenated contaminates in trace amounts to public drinking water and have them bioremediated by all water drinkers. Like we do for that fluoride halogen... 	The halogenated contaminants are most likely there (in the water) already if the truth be known; just at such levels that they cant be detected. LETS ALL GET PARANOID.

	The information I was given from Austin Energy is that burning methane recovered from various sources is less harmful than letting it directly into the atmosphere--burning releases CO2 but the straight methane is considered about ten times more harmful for equivalent volumes Of course, they say that a biofuel plant running on sawmill waste and similar plant-based material is carbon neutral because the CO2 released was previously removed from the air via photosynthesis--umm, yeah. __________________ Ready--Set--EVOLVE!
