Marking All Answers as Read?

01/24/2009 6:38 PM

Would it be possible, or rather practical, to change this feature.

I was thinking that when I click the "next new comment" field at the point in the thread where it appears in the bottom right that the system could automatically update at the top of the thread page where the new comments table appears. This way I would not have to go back and mark all comments as read. Seems practical to me. Any feedback?

"More, more!" I hear myself cry. While you're at it, Mark (if you're listening), a 'next comment - previous comment' navigation facility (whether the posts've been read or not) would be really handy ...

I too seem to be spending toomuchtime having to renegotiate through the threds to become informed. Leaving the initial blog to read the off topic and return and then having to close out the site then to return to the site back to where I started. It seems that a little fine tuning may be in order,

thanks

Hi

This tip might be helpful to you: If you click through all of the "new comments" the very last one will have a link that will take you back to the "new comment index" and you can click the "mark all as read" right there. In other words, you don't have to manually navigate back to the top.

One reason that we don't automatically mark each comment as "read" is that sometimes you'll want to leave them in the unread state until later... maybe you're just scanning the new comments and aren't ready to lose track of them.

Thanks
- Mark

How about being really indulgent, and giving us a "mark as read"/"mark as unread" toggle button for each comment? Please? Pretty please? (Plus the navigation suggestion in my comment above? ??).

It can't be that much to ask of a really clever bloke like you!

Fawn, grovel, we-are-not-worthy .

Sorry, we only keep track of a single date, the date you said everything was last "read", so we can't mark them individually.

A list of all new comments appears at the end of the OP and again at the bottom of the list. This allows to go to either top or bottom to navigate to the next new comment with relative ease. AFTER all comments have been read then is the time to "Mark All Answers as Read."

yes but if I click them as I scroll through the thread the why should I have to go back and redundantly mark them all as read after I have click go to next comment 50 times?

I thought most of the posters on CR4 were here to Learn, Teach, and Kill Time!

Do nothing simply if a way can be found to make it complex and wonderfu (and harrass the webmaster(s) with more programming.
