Motor Control

04/21/2009 4:50 AM

I have to buy a motor to control a small prototype unit. I have only a little experience of electrics, which I forgot twenty years ago. I think I have found a motor from a company called Lenze that will do the job. My question is a general one around controlling a motor. What is needed? The motor is an asynchronous servo motor of about 1KW. I need the motor to be controllable with regards to speed. I also would like to know what speed it is doing while working(On a digital readout). Would anyone be able to guide me in a right direction to sourcing all the equipment I would need? Even changing the supplier would be ok. I think I need a PLC, a readout unit?, a power source to convert the mains or is there an "all in one unit" available. I'm not wanting to spend a great deal of money, things being tight at the moment.

Thanks tin advance.

Lenze supplies as well controllers with features as you wish. Look at the whole catalog.

I know they sell stuff, like a lot of other suppliers, but I would like a bit of guidance to what I would require.

"The ETCxC and ETCHM products complete the portfolio of controls with their dynamic motion control system with CNC functionality (6D). "

Statements from websites like the above may as well be written Cyrillic for me as I don't have a lot of experience with this sort of stuff.

Cheers.

Hello Worrier,

I am sure there are a lot of local vendors that provide devices that will perform as you desire. It would be to your advantage to call an electrical distributor of industrial controls and talk to a technical sales person. They will help match your motor to a controller and possibly a gearbox should you need that as well.

I have recently been working on a project using Beckhoff hardware which is made in Germany. It is very reasonably priced and the technical support has been really great. While the motor controller is an independent device, I am using a PC to perform all the logic like a PLC (using modules connected by an Ethernet cable) and the input and output modules are easy to add as necessary.

If you just want a controller with a knob, ask your salesperson for a variable frequency drive that is compatible with your motor. Ask them to demonstrate it to you before you buy. Cheers!

hi dear ,

you buy a LG company inverter .which is reasonable price & one variable resistance 5kohm & one circuit breaker. so you drive a motor on working place & in your office on desire speed. no need other thing.
