CR4 Editor (Not Chris, the other one)

05/05/2009 5:20 AM

In a discussion about Mac's a question was raised about the way CR4's reply posting system works. People using other than Windows and Internet Explorer seem to have problems in formatting posts. Among other things, the icons in the reply box don't appear, and paragraph breaks evaporate.

Does anyone have good general advice/knowledge on existing problems and fixes ? I'm quite happy with how it works, but am interested in case I ever swap browser or get a Mac.

For Mac users the best option is to go with Firefox. Unfortunately, recent versions of Safari are not supported here. We haven't had the time or resources to perform the upgrade.

Hello Chris,

I did not really want to go to Firefox, as the reason I got a Mac was because of the unmanageable amount of spam, and virus and Trojan's I was getting. I want to stay with Mac software.

Is there any tweak you or I can make which would bring back the Format buttons please?

If not, any idea when you will be updating the site for the Safari?

Sincerely, bb

Hi Babybear,

My knowledge of the technical side is limited, but from what I do understand the programming involved is significant. A simple tweak is not going to it.

Hello Chris,

Many thanks for the reply.

I will look forward to what the other admin has to say. Sorry I cannot recall his name. I asked but thought that would be the answer. It is a real shame because although Mac is a minority of computers, it is still almost halve a billion, if my recalled figures are right.

Sincerely, bb

Thanks, Chris,

Hope you don't mind the slightly playful title.

For anyone who's interested, my usual avenue here is IE7. I'm simply in the habit of using it (despite the many who say it lacks security), although I have Firefox installed. On this occasion I've visited via Firefox, and everything on screen appears 'normal'

Exactly how CR4 functions under different systems is a bit too techy for me, though it's useful to know which browsers etc do/don't work. Hopefully this thread will generate some useful information on different members experience with different systems.

Thanks again for the prompt input.

Hi Kris,

Don't worry, no offense taken. The title gave me a chuckle when I saw it. Like you, much of the technical side of the site is beyond me. I handle the content and moderation side of things. Mark, who is on vacation this week, will be able to supply the functional breakdown.

Ta, Guest.

Here's another from that thread ( http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/36563/CR4-and-Google-Chrome ) ; http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/35989/Chrome-and-Firefox

Both threads have related and useful comments.
