40 GB Hard Disk Drive as CD?

05/28/2009 12:15 AM

I've at least 10 old folders in my laptop contains lot of useful old stuff.

I may need them any moment in future for instant view (read only like CD contents). I want them to be totally virus free.I don't like to write them on CD & use (It consumes lot of time to write & read). the other way is winzip. Back up doesn't helps for instant view.

1> Is this zip method really helps me?, Is there any alternate method?.

2> Is it possible to use my 40GB USB hard drive (or 4GB pen drive) as a CD (I think, CDs can't be infected easily or never).

Please help.

You can get a USB - IDE / SATA adaptor or external hard drive enclosure and use any drive as a memory stick.

I know it, & am using the same.... My problem is with infections....any hard drive can be infected by virus & files may corrupt....this is wat i'm worried about.

Writing to a disc can be blocked by setting an attribute but it can also be unblocked by a virus therefore no security.

If one now introduce a switch in the write enable signal line the writing circuitry can be disabled for as long as the switch is off.

Download True Crypt. you can encrypt part of your drive and drag you files to it. Follow the instructions on the website to the T and your files will be more secure than using any other method. You can even create a hidden container inside your encrypted volume that no one can see even if they somehow manage to break your password. Plausable deniability as well if your trying to hide stuff.
