Basic Design of Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger

06/03/2009 12:31 AM

How to arrive at Heat Transfer Area required for a Heat Exchange?

Eg. - Vapour Cooling

Vapour Density = 1.2, Sp. Heat = 0.24

Temperature = 130Deg C, Cooling required = 50Deg C (Delta T = 80 Deg C)

Try:

It's free!

or:

ditto.

My personal favourite book on heat transfer is

'Process Heat Transfer' by Donald Q. Kern

but you will have to buy or borrow it.

Try the text: "Process Heat Transfer" by D. Q. Kern in the Chemical Engineering Series of McGraw Hill Book Company. It is an old "cookbook" approach to heat exchanger design, especially Shell and Tube exchangers. I am sure there must also be software available for design of these units, but I haven't used them so I wouldn't recommend them.
