Heat Load Capcacity Calculation

06/11/2009 2:40 AM

I have a soap stamping machine. Normally it requires temperature of -12.5to -15 deg celsius. Capacity of the stamping machine is 1 ton per hour. Please tell how i can select a chiller for this? And please give the calculation for heat load capacity?

Soap temperature at entry? Time for a cycle? Contact area of tool with soap?

soap entry temperature is 20 deg celsius. soap contact with tool area is 600cm3.total load capacity of the machine is 1 ton per hour.

I am not sure but units for area are cm² not cm^3. Am I mistaken?

What kind of contact is it and how long the soap stays in contact with the tool? is it a alternative press? is it a press with 2 cylinders? If it is an alternative press how long is the time the tool stays in touch with the soap? Is the tool of steel? Which kind? How big is the tool with respect to the soap pressed each time?

Without vdetails no estimation is possible since it is a problem of pulsating heating and if cycle is not defined no progress is possible.

why i said it is in cm3 is it is a die , for soap there will be length breadth and thickness. die is in contact with soap. contact time is nearly 1 sec. in the die we are maintaining -12 degree. die is made of brass. machine capacity is such that it can stamp 1 ton soaps per hour. that is i have to maintain -12 to -15 degree. i think you got all the details. plz give the details of chiller and how i can select?

Since sopa and ambient temperatures are same is is enough to consider for the lateral area and the separation areas (there are 2) a convection with α=15...25 w/(m²*°C) and for the form where the soap is compressed a contact transfer of about k=35..40 w/(m²*°C). The temperature difference is 20-(-15)= 35°C.

The heat flow to be removed is Atotalconv* α*35 + Aform*2*k*35 result in w. Half of it for every mould half.

You should build up a sandwich= mould half+cold plate+insulation+press plate in order to avoid heat entry via the contact between mould and press plates.

The order of magnitude is in the range less 50 w/half. With above equation you can define it meore precisely.
