Cost Estimates for Pipeline Repairs

06/26/2009 12:16 AM

Gentlrman,

Recsently my boss asked me to prepare an estimate of reparation of 4 LM gazoduc of 8" pipe line damaged from our company. In reality the work of reparation are already donne from other subcontractor and our company claim that the cost is very high $30250 and asked our subcontrctor to review his cost. The estimate that i should prepare is like a sustainable document showing the realistic cost. 2 days of work (16 hours none stop) is done from this subcontractor, and he mentioned 56 manual labors had been moblized for this action!!!???

Any idea??

thx

You do not give many clues about where you are, what the 56 "labors" did etc, but assuming that you are somewhere in Quebec, does 33 USD an hour sound reasonable for labour including mobilisation, supervision, tools etc?

$30250 would be very low in Zimbabwe Dollars.

You should have asked for a cost estimate/proposal from the sub-contractor before doing the work. And not let the repair work carried-out, then question the cost.

Take three or more bids from differents subcontractors. Then you are going to be very close of the real cost. Stinky Pete give you one. You only need two more.

You say 56 peoples for 16 hrs totaling 896 hrs? if you charged $33.76 per hour for 896 man working hours that would add up to $30,250.00.

But what on earth would require 56 working men? That sounds way out of proportion.

hey guy,

Next time when you have work to be sub-contracted, please ask for quotations from different sub-contractors so that you'll have the idea how much is the cost estimate before proceeding with the work. Using 56 labors for the specified work is too much.
