That's far too hum-drum an answer. SPICE it up a bit, OK? 7.

I'm trying not to be an English nazi and I do apologise but I must tell you that "software" is an uncountable noun. This also applies to many other nouns like "equipment". There is no such thing as "equipments". Therefore, your possible questions could be;

1] What software is available for electrical engineering?

2] How many different kinds of software are available for electrical engineering?

"software is an uncountable noun"

Agreed, I think Thats why he typed 'softwares.'

A herd is a similar collective uncounable noun, but there can be herds.

English is very difficult to master. Even for those of us raised with it.

"What are the leading electrical engineering software packages available today, and which do you recommend?" might be another way to frame the question.

Thanks Milo. You provided a good example of "normal usage" of "software".
