Tool to Fit a Sealing Washer in a Bore

06/29/2009 10:14 AM

I have one sealing washer as per DIN 470 having diameter of 45.00 mm.

This sealing washer has to be fitted in a machined bore having bore diameter 45.0+ 0.01 mm. can you suggest the design of the tool to be used for the fitment of the sealing washer in the bore?

Chill the washer a few tens of degrees, then drop it in the hole.

Liquid nitrogen?

Thanks...

Just to inform you that, the sealing washer as per DIN 470 is having diameter (d)45.00 mm., sheet thickness (s) 2mm ,radius of curvature (r) 63.0mm & height (h) 6.3 mm

Pls note that, the dimension of the washer is less than the bore dia.. Hence we have to go for mechanical pressing to expand the sealing washer diamatrically.

If it's being forced in then it doesn't need to be chilled. Problem solved.

I think he's asking what the installation tool should look like. I'd guess that it should have the "as installed" profile of the washer and be some small metric amount in diameter smaller(I think in inches). And mounted in an arbor press in necessary.

Thanks..

We have already tried pneumatic zip gun with a hand tool (Dolly)to press the sealing washer. But the consistency is not coming. Now we are going for hydraulic. For now the end profile of the dolly made concave with radius of curvature more than that of the sealing washer (approx 1.8 times).

Is this concept is good enough to press the sealing washer.

The final product charactericts in terms of shape is : The middle portion(3/4th of the total dia) should be flat inturn giving a expansion overall diamatrically.

Thanks

Is this an expansion or commonly known as "freeze plug" ya think?
