why diameter of the machine is greater than length of the match..

But as an OEM most of my match (presumably machine) diameters are much lesser than the length

Take it Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, generators or even motors.

But of course as a homework question there is a reason, and that is always explanable, along with the drawbacks.
