Fuel Pipe Sizes

07/06/2009 1:45 AM

We have a project on design of generator set. My problem is how to determine the size of a fuel pipe line from main tank to day tank. My design is using a 3sets of generator and the fuel consumption is 50liters/hr each. Also what is the exact pipe material. Thanks.

Cheers

Joseph

50l/h = 1.4e-5m3/s

A 6mm Ø fuel line has a cross section of 2.8e-5m2

Which gives an average fluid velocity of 0.5m/s. Therefore the line size is suitable, being less than 3m/s rule-of-thumb economically, and 1m/s rule-of-thumb to limit static electicity build-up in non-conductive fluids.

Check a materials compatibility database such as this one to select pipe materials.
