In my 5 year experience i have never seen any stess relieving of S.S. . in case of welding ,stress relieving is depend upon your apporoved WPS .

sir if we do welding on SS or the heat treatment annealing or normalizing)done done to SS does it not necessary to relieve stresses(residual stresses).

In case welding S.S to S.S similar metal P8 to P8 as per ASME B31.3+ASME sec IX stress relieving is not required after welding regardless of thickness.even though in case of dissimilar metal either p1 (C.s)to p8 (S.S) or P4 (alloy) to P8 (S.S) stress relieving is required only c.S or alloy portion of joint if stess relieving is applicable as per code. stess relieving is not required or applicable for s.s joint.

Austenitic phase is non magnetic because its structure (FCC) other iron structures BCC are ferromagnetic (well just if they are below its Curie temperature).

Regarding Austenitic SS, usually structural/pressure vessel Codes nor specify nor forbid a stress relieving HT. My experience is that this type of steel is not HT after welding as it's not necessary to stress relief and some problems could arise if HT is done (sensitization, sigma phase....)

So if your material is austenitic SS, don't heat treat it after welding.
