The weight and surface area "per meter" of human hair.

08/02/2009 10:28 PM

Would someone tell me the above info, and the location of their source ? Also what is the diameter assuming that hair is perfectly cylindrical at a minimum? Does anyone know a nano technology lab that might be able to look any questions relating to this, and also a lab where it would be possible to photograph a single hair covered in some sort of oil or water, to determine how thick this might this covering/coating might be ? (Actually a haircare products company laboratory might have this info, but which is the best one, or who is a well known scientist/technologist directing or affiliated with it ? Thanks.

Try this: http://hypertextbook.com/facts/1999/BrianLey.shtml

I always used 0.001" for 'conversational purposes;' a sheet of std us copy paper is 0.003".

The shape is not cylindrical, curly hair (REDHEAD) is more triangular, thus the curls.

This depends upon who's hair you are asking about. There are different thicknesses of hair throughout the world.

Well, of course, I know, all hair, and even each hair, is not the same. And likely not among the different animals of the same species and especially not among various different kinds of animals. Have you ever seen an "elephant hair bracelet", the kid's wear- very very thick. If you answer is off by 100% or even 200%, at least that's a start. Can you find out actual information ? Not very generalized, "non answers". Thanks.
