RF Amp to Boost FM Stereo Transmitter

09/02/2009 6:57 AM

I am in a location where you can not pick up FM so everybody is on cable or SAT. I just want to boost my RF output a little bit so I can pickup my iPod from a transmitter location to all the receivers in my medium sized house without static and dropout.

Does any body know of a RF amp <500mW that could drive a FM transmitting antenna <1W @ 50 ohm BNC? I know Part 15 of the FCC but no one is going to pick it up because it is FM dead out here mountains everywhere. My track housing is called Mountain View LOL. It is pretty bad when you can only transmit 100' or so.

Please if your from the FCC I am going to limit the power and not broadcast all over the street. What about Cb's and their 1000W linears. I live in CA and I heard one guy from Florida in the daytime, no skip, but he was and his handle was gator something if I remember. LOL

FM transmitter kits are pretty common - if you're a little handy with a soldering iron.

I have a FM sterio chip with crystal control with selectable frequency. The problem is it is limited in mW output. So I need a very small linear amp in the FM band.

I was about to do that but it was 3:00AM when I thought the same thing thanks. I have circuits for wideband RF amps this might work.

Maybe a better transmitting antenna that is properly matched would do the trick : http://www.hobbytron.com/Tru-Match-FM-Broadcast-Antenna-Kit.html

I have a 50 ohm BNC tuned antenna for the FM band. I just need a RF amp with 50 ohm output and it should match as far as VSWR.

Try some of these links, the last one has amplifier kits also. You should go with a new transmitter as your iPod FM transmitter doesn't have a clean output and amplifying it as is, will rebroadcast unintended frequencies. Such unintended harmonics could mess with such things as air traffic radios.
