Delco Alternator Drawings / CAD Models

10/01/2009 3:32 PM

Ladies and Gents, I'm tinkering with a homebrew project and I plan on using an automotive alternator preferable a high output one with an internal regulator. I'm thinking I'd like to use an AC Delco model 321-259 or 321-39 (Delco 10SI or 12SI)because they are easily found in junkyards and reman-ed in parts stores for under 40 bucks.

Does anybody know where I might find such a model/drawing?

I searched, and came up empty...

I'd model it for you if I had one on my desk.

You tried talking to someone in AC Delco's Engineering Dept? Sometimes thats the only way I can get detailed models from some vendors. Many times they won't give you the real model, but if you tell them all you need is the shell, or a basic dummy model they might be more inclined... but you have to talk to the right person on the inside.

Yeah, I'm thinking it might be easier to just buy one and model it myself. I found a place that was offering a solid model for 30 bucks but heck, I can BUY one for that almost and model it MY way. I was hoping someone might have had one they could share though.

These were designed and produced at the Delco Remy plant in Anderson Indiana. I think that this too became a Delphi Division. The plant manager at the time I called on them was ED CZAPOR. He subsequently became V?P of QC in Detroit. I think he has since retired. Al

Although in concept I really like that site, The fact that all the models are unregulated uploads from other users, you have no idea of the accuracy of the model you are paying for to download. The alternator which has been linked is not the alternator in question, in fact it is a user modeled, generic 4 cylinder alternator (at least according to the title/description). I would not use a single model off that site if any of my design parameters needed to be exact, or were going to rely on the accuracy of the model. For the amateur user who just wants a Representative part to show a basic visual representation then it is great. Just want you to be aware, and not download some model and design your system around it only to find that the dimensions are not at all what the real part shows.

Are you sure that is a Delco 10SI or 12SI Alternator? It sure does not look like one to me. And of course they want $70 subscription too. For that money I'll go buy one new for $40 and model it myself.
