Reverse Bridge in Inverter drives

We have a reverse bridge in sectional inverter drives of Paper Machine. Kindly let me know the application and the situation in which it will operate.

As far as I know it acts like a brake, providing a dc voltage to the motor terminals. It will normally act when the drive trips.
