WiFi Security Camera

10/09/2009 10:24 AM

Anybody run across an off-the-shelf product that consists of a solar charged, battery operated, security camera that transmits its image via WiFi? I would prefer that it stands alone and operates up to a distance of 150 feet (45 meters) and can tolerate changes in lighting condition changes from day to night. A motion detection capacity (via image analysis) would make a nice additional feature but I don't want to have to mortgage the farm to get it.

I suppose it also needs to be able to tolerate most types of weather, but I can always provide enclosures if necessary.

Any idea as to the cost?

I bought one on eBay some years ago.

NOT solar powered, but it claimed it could run off a PP3 9V battery.... A bit optimistic as the camera/transmitter consumed a lot of power.

But if you had a large enough solar cell array and only used the camera periodically it would be okay I guess...

You can use a off the shelf camera , but you will need to use a separate solar power system w/ a battery. That will give you 24/7 capabilities

Here's one, it's discontinued but maybe you can track one down.

Here's another but it sounds expensive,

& here's a guide to solar security cameras.

I've had very good experience with EMZA Visual Sense products. The WiseEye model will work in any weather, wired or WiFi. It's 12V with a solar option. The daylight model will work to 1 lux, and they also have an IR option for poorly lit venues.

It's been a couple of years, but I bought a 4-pack kit for US$3300.
