I am entering this thread with great hesitation but am still doing so. Not because of the "GA problem" which is not the real issue here, it seems to me. I have given a few GA's to you in the past and have admired your input although I was not the OP.

The real issue is that you are in a typical, historically proven and well documented inventors situation. I can feel with you and so will many others who are in our dilemma position. I have not counted the times when I have blown a fuse about the injustice dealt out to inventors and recognize that you are doing the same. It is of no help I have found. Good answers or not. Sure high blood pressure doesn't help. Please look after your self, people like you are the salt of the earth, never forget that.

The thing about inventing is that even the most needed or great invention can be a "disruptive technology". This is a technology that would disrupt the existing big boys plans in a way they have not planed for. They have no interest whatsoever in stopping what they are doing and the sooner you get over that fact the better. I am not suggesting you give up on your inventions but get a more realistic assessment of our situation and the chances we have in over coming this incredible challenge.

I could complain all day and make my life a hell but have chosen to take my time and be better prepared next time I get that urge to place an invention with a potential manufacturer or distributor. It is the most challenging part of any idea. Seldom will we succeed but that will not stop us from trying.

I am not sure why you think that the USA is the place to be (sorry guys). Why not try and come to Australia. I came back here from Germany a long time ago and have never looked back. Not that I am successful or have lots of money but I am coping with the "real world" and not sacrifice all and give my soul to the chasers around the golden calf. Being of advanced age and still not having given in gives hope. That's all we can count on. Hope and some good luck which we both don't have much of, it seems.

If you can wait for me to be successful I will see that some of the money I make will go towards financing some or at least one of your projects. I know of none but after what you are stating here, there should be one that does not cost the world and would find interested parties here in this wonderful country of ours.

I lived in Zagreb for a while (in my musician days) and made some good friends. It was before the war but that means nothing in your part of the world now, does it? You guys have always flown your flags high. Keep your cool! If you don't, in the so called "free world", it is some times not appreciated and being or staying cool can be very important. Luck shall come your way, don't worry about the GA's or the person (s) taking them away. It gives them satisfaction and surely you don't want to let them have that.

I really hope that all will be well in the end. Clever and well spoken you are, that's for sure. Stop worrying too much about matters which are out of your control and stick to what you do best, giving GA's and inventing that is.

After searching for more information about you and having read your reply, I have found that your recalcitrance is a huge, if not the main hindrance, in your development and success. You have this knack of brushing people up the wrong way. It diminishes your statements which are quiet in the realm of being worthy of discussion but have this leading edge which I have found irritating but could not put my finger on before.

There is nothing wrong with it if you are a multi millionaire and can afford to drop a project or company because the thing it makes is 'the wrong colour'! But when no one want to know about it, in you case, world wide knowledge of your company is zero.

Because it has the same or a very similar name to many other companies which have nothing to do with it. This is where you should ask yourself why some major companies change their name and business plan, company headed paper, vehicle colours etc every five or ten years? It is all to save TAX.

Perhaps you should think of doing the same? Dig yourself out of your self imposed muddy gloom and try a new site and name. You may even be able after a request to use a blog on CR4 as your mouth-piece?

No one out there that I can find knows of your company at all. Change the name and or business registry, IE the place your business is Legally bound to give as its address, and open a web site, which does not have to cost you hardly anything, and you may well have a successful business once more, simply because you have advertising, which, you do not appear to have at the moment. If you do have a well known product or products or ideas floating around the web, apart from those you have mentioned here on CR4, please tell me.

I searched for your company and found nothing. For a successful company it must be know. Yours is not.

If one theory does not work then give it up. It would for instance be great if everything was made of gold. It would help prevent any rusting etc! But it isn't and cannot be because it does not have the strength of steel and concrete. You have to estimate any idea has 'cost' you in real terms, time spent on it, design, practicability, transport, cost to operate, the list goes on. ............ If that product has not gone to market and is not earning money for at least you, the chief infester to make a living, you have fails in your inventors job. You cannot hold onto inventions for half a lifetime and expect others to finance the cost of tests etc, and the cost of your lifestyle while deciding on whether or not to call it a day and either forget it or sell the idea to someone else. That is what happens in the real world. It is not perfect, but it is how things are invented and brought to market and so made use of by those whom have a need to do so.

Please listen to me. This is not a get at Henrik14 post, but more one post which is trying to give someone a hand in a practical way. Though I know damn well you well say I am wrong and your company name has been with you since 1993 etc........ By the way, we are in a new Millennium now Henrik.

Therefore, I would stop doing it at all, and I should have not being worried about persons who do not understand what I am writing.

That's right, GAs show every time I post, but it would be normal they accumulate over time. I read someplace how someone is proclaimed to be >>Guru<< after collecting 50 GAs, and if my GAs disappear sometime after I earned it (because my post helped someone solve a problem posted) I could never collect them.

It is also kind of record of personal success in helping others successfully, and therefore I could get feeling that time and effort invested was not wasted!

If that is being taken away unjustly and just because someone who collected far less is jealous on me, then such practice should be precluded.

I did not get single GA that was not hard won by providing solution that was best of all posted, therefore it make me question how useful it is to spend my time and do all to really help someone, when this is not acknowledged in any way.

Not to mention that many times far inferior solutions got good GA while my post got nothing, which I tought to be strange, but it mattered to me to really help colleague, and then apparently my solution were not recognized and far inferior solution was acclaimed as best.........

But still, ratio between number of posts and GAs won should be kind of expertise ratings, and more so as I did not post just few lines like most of posters do.

If my efforts are not recognized and even my solutions are not useful, then why should I even bother to post, or in fact, to read about problems other people have?

This practice of reverse voting for old GAs should be stopped, or sooner or later nobody would have any incentive to post solutions to serious problems on CR4....

Followed CR4 for a couple of month (found the variety of questions as extremely broad) and noticed many times that the right answer does not get the right appreciation.

Reasons can be the not correct use of language, not understanding what is right, appreciating more the superficial wit than the technical solution, level of some readers, or any other.

Interesting is to see the ration good answers/total number it is almost constant ≈2% even for "Gurus", I expected more from them!

Few exceptions and due to wit more than to technical quality.

I noticed an interesting aspect, many do not answer the question give their opinion instead or put questions but never give an naswer even when their question(s) got an answer.

This has always been one of the questions that comes up with ranking. The amount of times you post is what your ranking will be. (unless it has changed) Guru status has more weight on the amount of times you have participated in discussions than how many good answers you have received. Before GA's were given many of the participants were already well over 500 postings.

So that is why I have noted one line posts commenting weather or just applauding to somebody else, they were just increasing number of posts :-((

I would say that really knowlegable and expert posters would fast collect their GAs, regardless of previous number of posts, or those threads should have been voted for GAs, or GA given to best post, as surely some way existed to determine best solution posted?

Then also, I would like to know if posts by OP are counted or not?

Judging from sparseness of answers from OPs they are not counted.

Anyhow, whole point in ranking CR4 members is to help OPs to concentrate on answers from experts that have been proven helpfull in the past for others, and that only collected number of GAs can show, right?

So each GA received has to be on merit and quality of solution provided, and once received, it should stay in posession of that CR4 member.

Also, I noted threads where NO GAs were given at all, so at least thread moderator should give one to (in his/her oppinion) best solution provided, or OPs should be obligated to choose one, or declare problem unsolved and ask additionall help, but with explanations why each submitted solution was not helpful or practicaly applicable to problem at hand...........

From such comments would be visible what facts OP did not supply or why problem was not understood by posters. But there should be Moderator for each thread, and OP should first clearly state his problem, including all dimensions and other data relevant to problem. Recently someone wanted to know how to join ceramic pipe segments with extremely high temperature fluid (1300C) and neglible pressure, without specifying total lenght of pipe, number of joints, type of fluid going trough it, just telling that inner diameter is 50cm and pipe wall can be as thick as necesary.

That last implied pipe would be produced on order or in house, but wether it is one of kind or there would be many of same type was information also missing.

So at least moderator, or text at page for opening new thread should warn OP to give as much of details of problem as possible, and that no detail is superficious.

We who want to help cannot see what OP has held in his head thinking it is common knowledge.......

Then there is another matter: Some companies can use CR4 to get FREE technological solutions, and some solutions could mean great savings or profit for OP, therefore, and specially since many of Engineers on CR4 are poor or retired or both, OP should offer some reward for solution, even if symbolic.........

Then those of us that are spending time and efforts to find solutions for problems would get at least little recompensation, and prize collected cannot be retreacted, so perhaps they should be counted instead of GAs....

Those that get prize and dont need money can donate it to CR4, or some humanitarian organization, and their count of prizes would remain measure of their effectivenes and expertise.

I am member of two WEB Sites as paid Soultion Provider, and what I dont like is that posting are not public, and so they declare winner to be anybody without showing solution provided, and it is not even possible to check if that person exist or is completely made up to hide fact that prize is not paid to anyone.

Also, companies seeking solutions can receive hundreds of good ideas applicable to range of problems, and still pay just one prize.

Moreover, those Sites require from Problem Solver to hand over all intelectuall rights to them without any additional pay, and they can use it as they want and wherever they want, modify it, develop it further or make derivative works, and sell it as many times they like.........

That I call plain robbery!

So, if such things as >>Challenges<< would be introduced, or there would be obligation for problem poster to give some prize, I think everybody would profit, and of course nobody would like to fight for 1$ prize if solution to problems can bring millions of profit to OP, right?

So, doing it all in public on CR4 would be better, and even CR4 can have some fixed amount to be paid by company seeking solution to some problem.

Company posting >>Challenge<< could remain anonimous if they prefer this, of course, as some would be ashamed to admit they seek solution to problem their laboratories or institutes cannot solve :-))

Duplicate solutions would also be avoided so only first would be considered, unless there are significant differences in methods applied, but persons with ideas that are same as one allready posted would give up, or think up still better solution.......

So, specially in time of Worldwide financiall crisis, that would help everyone, I would say.

Also, paying less to engineers from poor countries would be avoided, and everyone would have same chance to get prize, so only talent and inventiveness or simply experience would be paid.

Still better, prize could be divided among group of posters, so it could be treated as group effort, or everyone would get at least little money to be stimulated to continue participating. There would be also opportunities created for getting a job with company that posted challenge, if they are so much pleased with proposed solution, or this should be precluded to remain CR4 service and that this company keep returning (for this, company would remain ignorant of fact who produced the winning solution).........

On the other hand, teams of experts could be formed by CR4 to work on each challenge according to expertise of each member, and then only members with certain rank could participate, and other members have to prove themself as experts by working on problems publicly posted.

But in such case we return to GAs and method of ranking CR4 members, right?

So, would not this all be usefull more then merely solving problems for glory of GAs that can dissapear later?

With reference to your post #8, A guest cannot vote period! A member who forgets to sign in and writes as a guest, I think you will find cannot vote either.

With regard to your comment on an 'assigned Moderator' to check the thread questions before they are posted, this is already done! Admin choose which threads to publish, and there is far more posted threads than there is space to answer them all.

And as a for instance, if threads from guests were automatically put through, how could the silly and nonsensical ones be 'weeded out' if the admin do not check posts before they are published?

I have only found a couple of instances where someone has asked a question and the answer to that exact question has already been posted. Most time the posts are similar but not exactly the same. And as you say, oftentimes the request is so badly written, several suggestions, including links to already published posts will be given as an answer.

In the not so distant past people have posted in Russian, so, what I think is good English, cannot be compared to another member or guest writing a post in the Russian Language?

After a thread has started it has 'a life of its own' and, there is no way to stop any post that may even contain the answer requested after all? But, after the post is published and perhaps a particular post is dangerous, like for instance someone explaining how to build a bomb,,... this post would be removed very quickly by admin because other more sensible members would have already 'reported' these dangerous posts anyway.

Yeah, we've had trouble in the past from trolls that get their noses out of joint and then start voting your GAs as off-topic. One very good poster got run down to about zero. Try not to sweat it. Those of us who actually give good answers from time to time (I swear I have! Once in 2006 and again....well, maybe) know who else knows what they're talking about. I'm with LynLynch on this - who cares? You get a guru for number of posts, I think. But, it is a pain in the neck.

What was the reason for introducing ranks in first place? To determine ranks, GAs were introduced, or were there any other reason?

I am here to help as much as i can, but also to be helped, so if my problem is of financial nature, why it would be forbidden to offer my services on CR4?

Why not make it practice, in organized way, so everybody would benefit?

If CR4 is about helping others, then what about inventors that would help many people?

Why there would not be section of CR4 for inventors only, who can offer their inventions and find investors?

It could also be open for discussion and criticism, or work on inventions can be turned to be group efforts where teams of specialists or experts can join forces and produce something all the World can use, and team could divide profit/royalty among themselves, half going to inventor and other half to the team?

But for choosing experts on their merit require ranging them, right?

While it is a curiosity to me, it is not the end of the world. I post to help people and to joke around with other people. If I earn GA's in the process that's great,if not...Oh well.

You're not the first to ask about this issue. I even had a post on the subject and then I figured it out. Do you know what would change if the GA system were to be removed so that people wouldn't be upset over the gain or loss of GA's? The people who are here strictly to stroke their ego's would fade away. And that would be a shame because they do provide some great information.

Now don't go looking through my posts and start removing my GA's. My inflated ego couldn't take the disappointment.

In contrast to You, I am very poor man from poor country, with big debt and small pension, and I was seeking a way to distinguish myself and perhaps make someone interested in my abilities as problem solver, or that somebody here know some investor who would invest money in my inventions that I cannot finance because of before mentioned reasons.......

So, it is small stuff for You, and not so small, but allmost question of life and death for me, understand?

I shall tell you a true story: about 1.5 to 2 years ago a participant asked for support for a complex problem. He got in touch with me via the private channel since he preferred not to discuss every thing in the open. He had to send me the spec. for an analysis and a proposal. He promised several times to do it but never did.

He totally disappeared and did not answer my mail, I thought that unfortunately he was sick or that he even left us. May I mention that he comes from a country with an old and proud culture and where politeness and correctness are highly appreciated.

A couple of months ago he made anew an apparition on CR4 and proposed his skills and relations to an other participant who came with a promising idea to present it.

When I asked if he is the person who I thought he was I did not get any answer and he disappeared again.

CONCLUSION: It is an error to believe that you will ever make a bussiness via CR4, if this is your goal do NOT waste your time and try to find other ways to earn some money. Your GA-s will have NO effect do not be sorry it is so and you cannot change people.

You need to understand that this forum is for the passing of information and some camaraderie, it is not meant to be an employment site. People will judge you by the responses that you post, not by the number of posts or GA's that you have. I have read many of your posts and found them to be well thought out and intelligent but you can't seem to see the big picture. It is unlikely that many employers or financiers are reading these posts in the hopes of finding new employees or the next great invention to finance.

By the way I am not rich by any standard. My debts are, I am sure, much worse than yours but that is not a hindrance but a challenge. And people know that I am joking with them when they laugh at my comments.

Please don't take things so seriously here, it sounds like you have a tough life. Why make it worse? Just log on and enjoy the help that comes and goes and make a joke sometimes. Here in the USA we have a saying "LIGHTEN UP!". That means relax and have some fun.

Your GA count and anyones GA count will vary depending on whom visits the thread after you may have long forgotten the thread. But, it works both ways; you can be deducted a GA and or get another GA awarded if a new comer joins or reads the thread.

You now have 9 GA's, which I think is a pretty good amount for the relatively few posts you have sent................. Writing a post does not qualify you to an automatic GA. That is down to your peers and they will vote yes or no depending on what is thought to be either a very useful post, or, a wasted post, so as to speak.

Someone does not have to get 50 GA's to be a Guru. The GA count is not part of the deciding factors with regards to your 'screen title'. This is derived from the total number of posts sent by the person, as follows.

What do member titles mean?

Member titles are a fun way to track user participation on the site. The more posts you submit to CR4, the higher you'll rise along the following scale:

• 0 - Browser
• 1 - 4 Participant
• 5 - 9 Member
• 10 - 24 Active Contributor
• 25 - 54 Associate
• 55 - 99 Commentator
• 100 - 499 Power-User
• 500 - 999999 Guru

I know this is so, and somebody have posted also ranks like You.

But in this particular case I mentioned my 7 GAs to a man who has just one and three times more posts than me, and after this they started to dissapear......

I would say same person has brought my 14 GAs to 6 after I scolded him for spitting on my countryman, Engineer Nikola Tesla, whom he accused of stealing other people's inventions....

I would say that first of all, GAs should be given for solutions to a problem, specially those that OP consider to be good for posted problem, and this should really show quality of somebody's posts.

But as Einstein has taught us, everything is relative, and some jokers have given GAs even for totally unrelated posts, i think intentionally undermining GA system.

Surely ones that installed this system of collecting GAs have good reason for this or some future plan. Maybe this could help to some of us to get hired by someone who would notice really good solutions, specially if there is evidence this is not exception but that this person consistently give good solutions to problems, and ratio of GAs to number of posts is higher than average.

I myself hoped for something such because my financial position is untenable, and it does not console me that it is not because of my doing, but because my business Bank debacle that took all I earned in first 5 years, and few of my company biggest buyers who were forced to fill bankruptcy due to insolvency.

At start when my ratio of posts to GAs was high, I was approached by one international group of Engineers that asked me to join their efforts in spreading free technology in poor countries, which I did.

After I pointed out some mistakes in their plans and devised better financing system that would really enable that technology would be given for free, they started scolding me for asking some money for this solutions and even went that far to distance from me publicly when I tried to find investors for their worthy cause. As usual, my greatest problem is that people don't understand what I write about, and they pick one detail or other but cannot see whole picture of what I am offering.

Unfortunately this coincided with great scandal with Mr. Maddock, and since he was also promising 20% ROI per year to his investors like me, they called me names....

What they did not understand is that my financing system is paid by highly profitable installations or factories that use cheap materials and produce sellable goods that bring profit. Everything is paid by factories and installations, including first of all their own cost, so my fee would not cost investors single dime, and system enabled also technology providers to be paid (which is right, since they invested in development of technology before) and fund for future Research and Development was also included, as well as incentive for Board of Experts so they would be paid more from successful projects.

But what can I do, Engineers are not Economists, and their intention was to give technology for free, not seeing that company may get credit for first installation from the Bank, but that credit has to be returned with interest, and there story finish because next time they cannot get another credit and another for each new installation they would build, and if they give it for free, from where would money come to return credit?

Anyhow, maybe they were ashamed to have such stupid financing plan and none but me was seeing this, so they ceased to contact me. But, I would start my financing plan even without them, as soon as I start getting money for my inventions, because that way investors profit, people get valuable installations totally free of charge, workers get employed and so on, and everybody benefit, including governments that collect more taxes......

So You see, if I did not see this system of getting GAs for good solutions as means to be hired as expert for problem solving, I would not get upset over losing GA's, specially since I saw GAs granted for even stupid posts.......

I say again there is no connection between the number of posts and the amount of GA's.

The GA system is there as an incentive but, also I feel it can truly show what the other Members think of a particular post that may have made which helped or is thought to have taken by its nature and content, several hours or days to compose as a helpful post, and is likely to be one post which stands out.

You cannot reply to any posts with the expectancy of receiving a GA in your mind.

Stop moaning and just get on with advising Members and non-Members alike.

It may not be 'entirely' your fault that you are in need of financial help, but you say you joined an organisation which said they would give free Technology, and then go on to say you advised them to rearrange there own company finances? Someone who owes so much money cannot afford to give that advice at all my friend. Your own decisions have gotten you where you are now not being able to go forward for lack of finance.................. It simply is not on for you to start to give ANY kind of advice on finance at all.

You start of this sentence with a completely un-based assumption that "they were ashamed" That says more about you as a person than you may realise. Do not forget, writing in these open posts as you have, other potential Investors also see your way of thinking and your attitude towards people whom do not agree with you, and I feel sure they will take this into consideration when they see you asking for help and or 'Investment'

There is a whole lot of Engineers whom are also economists. Those designing things and making there living from it, do also have to take the economy into account, or they can never be able to sell what they design or build.

I understand that unfortunately there is no relation between number of GAs and number of posts, but surely it was intended to show something?

If I write several pages of explanation what is solution to posted problem, it count as one post just like one that say: >>That is exactly what I wanted to say!<< or just >>Bravo!<<, so what information is contained in number of posts alone?

If I helped to solve problem and got GA, then I feel it is earned in hard competition and therefore precious to me.

I am not expecting that I would get GA automatically whenever I post solution to problem, but since I was problem solver for 30+ years that have never failed to find good solution to problem at hand, I reasonably expect to be among those that post good solution, and hope mine would be considered most helpful.....

I am not moaning, if You don't mind, and if You did not notice, I am trying to save GA system from those that undermine it, assuming that it has some purpose after all that would be helpful at least to those that collect many well deserved GAs....

In regard to this group, You are again reasoning without enough facts, and jumping to wrong conclusions, specially about me.

First, they had NO money and NO company as yet, and they wanted to found one into which investors would pour money in exchange for 51% of company shares in period of 10 years. Plan did not take in account that money, augmented with credit for land on which factory would be built would be spent on building this factory and then they would be getting just 49% of profit and have credit to return to the Bank that would take factory as collateral insurance also.

Now, how do You think they would be able to fulfill their main function, giving technology to people for free? They cannot give factory to anybody since Bank would be holding it, and credit should be returned by factory also, and if company is equal to factory (because investors have invested money in company that was spent on building factory) what use would be that 51% of company shares if they give factory away? From where would investors get ROI on money invested?

So to build next factory or installation, they would either have to found another company, ask investors for more money and take new credit and so on, or it would not be possible.........

In contrast to this, my plan reuse money so that first factory have to return all money invested to it, and all should be paid by investment money, without taking credits, no matter how affordable they are. After this, it could be given absolutely free of charge to new owner, but part of selling price of each product have to be paid to Fund that have financed it all. From this would Investors get their guaranteed 20% of ROI per year, and with refunded money next factory would be built, and cycle repeats itself, but part of selling price of factory products now accumulates, because first factory is covering ROI payment. Each factory was supposed to pay for 10 years, so at least 200% of its cost would be gathered and used to build still new factories. But projected profit as compared to cost of factory was 350% per year so actually 65% of factory price would be collected each year, which comes out as 650% in ten years period, which means that each factory save for first would build 6 and half factories in 10 years or 13 by 2 factories. Now, since this would be done during this 10 years and not at end of them, whenever enough money accumulates to pay for building of another factory, it would be used and one more factory would be built, which would pay itself back and start paying to Fund from its own product sale, and so on as long as there is need to build factories and installations that are profitable enough.

If I calculated it right, then for same amount of money invested 350 factories could be built in 10 years period, and money multiplied at least 200 times.....

So tell me now that You know all facts: which financing plan was better?

Now, what it has to do with my own financial situation caused by bankruptcy of my Business Bank that has buried 60 000 of companies out of 77 000 that were keeping their money in it? If my biggest clients did not perish there and have left big bills for goods and services unpaid, I would not be in position where I still fight for survival against all odds, and am returning my company debts even with totally blocked Bank account.

So how You dare keep politely insulting me by blaming me for my situation?

I would be ashamed if I would make such impractical plan for this humanitarian activity that defeat my main purpose for starting it at all, and somebody point out to me that what I was bragging about as best possible of all plans that in fact this is worthless, as I would lose face for sure. Why would I think others cannot do as good job as me? With 7+ billions of people, there must be thousands that are more clever than me, but how many of them are doing same things as me? I would say it could be dozen even on CR4, as some excellent solutions were given in some threads where I was participating, and where I saw someone posted same solution to problem as I would do, I did not even try to participate as I considered problem is solved. But sometimes I saw such good solutions ignored and GAs given to something that did not made any sense to me, specially if this was not related to problem at all. Same happened to my posts on many occasions, so I had feeling I was writing with invisible ink, as nobody seems to have read what I wrote.........

I would open my own pages for helping inventors, as soon as this would be possible and I finish program for simulation of functioning of any kind of device or machine.

It is hot, about 33C. The beach is a walk down the road and I have to go to Australia (just west of here) and get some guitar strings on Friday. These have done their job.

I am asking my self how mature -not how old- we are to discuss so much about a such a trivial aspect.

I consider -for instance- that it is not always correct to wait for 2 positive rates for a GA since some subjects are sooo narrow that never more than the GA from the interested person will be given. This way many centred, good answers, do not appear in the general statistics.

But this is not a reason to give such a value to the GA we all know that not the technical value is the criterion although we participate to an engineering group and we continue to participate.

I personally participate for 3 reasons:

- it pushes to think in domains I was not active for some time and it helps to maintain a mind plasticity which is positive

- it gives a world wide view of engineering level and interest and this last is most exiting.

- it is a pleasure to help somebody, share knowledge with others even if they forget after they get the help, which ever it is, to say thanks or to give a GA.

I very much doubt that those who participate for a confirmation of their ego are many.

This is a waste of time.

Yes, there may be a little ego here. Is that bad?

The current CR4 system supports GAs. Some people consider them important, some don't. There probably are a lot of people that will make a statement in one direction today but not necessarily feel that way all the time.

Bottom line, the system supports giving a GA for a good answer. It it not always applied fairly, but that is life. Bottom line is that that is the system.

Now, to have people take away the GAs with bad intent or malice recreation is wrong. Even if the GA only supports ego, an earned GA should remain an earned GA. To give the final word to a troublemaker is bad for business.

More than once I posted an answer that got several GAs. I did not have my password handy so I posted as Guest. Afterward I felt bad that I put 5 minutes plus into the answer and I don't get the GA that my answer got. Does this make me bad?

It should not be too much trouble for a good coder to modify the way the GA system works. Keep and post a running total of the "yes" and "no" votes. Keep a log of each user that voted. Anyone named "Guest" should either not be allowed to vote or at minimum not be allowed to over ride the votes of people with other names. With "Guests" having restricted or no voting rights then the problem might be reduced. With other members being able to see who is causing the trouble then the problem a) might be reduced and b) has enough information present for a possible solution.

I was not the coder, but I have worked on Intel Architecture Server projects where the amount of data being recorded and worked with far exceeded the GA loading of CR4. The system should be able to handle the change.

This is an open and friendly (we hope) community. Let the votes be open like a town hall meeting. I think that the trouble makers would be the only ones that would object to this.

If the trouble makers are allowed to rule the GA system and so many people think that GA is worthless ego then maybe we would be better off with no GAs. That is not my preference, but that would be more fair.

I have a co-dependent relationship with CR4.

It would be nice if a GA produced a paycheck, and I ought to be doing something else, but I like responding to the questions.

InnoCentive has some interesting challenges, and seems to offer fair money to solve some really tough questions. Not much play to it though.

To tell the truth I didn't know at all how one became a "Guru" till around 490 or so posts some wrote me to congratulate me and made some expressions of appreciation for my involvement.

To tell the truth some of my involvement does come out of having few people around in my life even at all interested in some of the sorts of things we discuss here.

I did suggest that for the Tee shirts and coffee cups a good tag would be: "CR4, all I wanted from Shortwave".

As far as Status in the Forum is concerned, I have suggested that it would be nice if it was combined with GAs, and ratings for Thread starts.

I get a kick myself from starting a Thread that gets a lot of input, like What are the Top Ten Sci Fi movies, or Who are the Top Ten Scientists?

If I know that an answer is good, I give it a GA.

If I find a blog thread good I rate it as a compliment to the OP.

If I post a one liner, well, that's all I might have to offer, it's not like I might go on and on and on, on some other score.

Just one other thing. In the future make certain you do not use the same Bank as most of your customers!

It will take several years to get going because I understand you have not Patented your ideas yet. That will take a while and then you may have to fight any 'copy cats' who may build systems with the same principle.

I think you should start a basic site, by perhaps using one of Google's or Yahoo or Microsoft's ready built web pages. This will put your company name in the minds of people who may be interested. And give them a means around the world, to contact you and your company/s.

It may also help you to use a totally new name to launch your new idea. Anything that has happened will not then effect your new venture. This is not a way to stop paying TAX or anything underhand at all. It is something done by all the big companies, so that if one product fails or they have Banking or money problems, it can stop that one part of the organisation, but, not bring down the whole company.

As a for instance, Virgin start a new company every-time a new idea is sold to the public. Whether it be transport, Mobile Phones, or Music & Media, they sound the same, but are not connected.

If this VIRGIN corporation have sure winner that would sell like crazy, would not they put it under name if their company? Since nowadays everyone need cheap electricity, and there is also greater and greater water and food shortage all over the World, I am sure that cheap and therefore affordable Power stations would be sold in blink of an eye, and that would enable also my water production devices to be sold at barest minimum of profit, if that would be me who would be selling them.

But I have plans to combine Wind and Solar Power stations in one place, and I could use waste heat in Solars to run water production devices, and I hope that my Wind turbine would be able to produce water as byproduct also, so buyers of my Power Stations would get water as unexpected bonus.........

I would like to explain to all my colleagues how it is possible but I cannot do so right now. Once my inventions would be patented in all relevant countries, I would reveal it all, or sooner than that you would be able to read advertisements from factories producing installations about their wonderful products :-))

Your post on this topic is experienced by many of us. My observations and comments on this topic are the following.

*More GAs mean majority accepted Good Answers, May be on an expert answer survived without disputes. That means G.As with just 2 positive vote points scored will any time be susceptible to get lost even in case of a single negative vote.

*Many readers who search on topic based views of posts look for specifically the targeted good answers and may add negative votes as per their view. So border G.As need more consolidations to survive longer.

*CR4 if the participation is taken in right spirits- a field for sharing, updating, new knowledge and international friendship and a place to discuss open mindedly.

*More G.As does not mean any honour or monitory awards, so to say nothing to loose, but the satisfaction of delivering a most convincing, accepted and good answer in a group of top class intellectuals/ knowledgeable members.

* Some Guest's posts and such leg pullings are disgusting but they express their freedom of thought and it is all in the game.

*Present more group convincing posts and grow in the G.As and simply nothing to loose.

Now, one way to resolve problem with GAs is to make OP vote with special, >>irremovable<< type of GA that is counted as GA even from that one vote.

There can also be distinction between two kinds of GAs (that is, they would be counted separately) and so system of collecting GAs would be preserved, regardless of reason why it was instated in first place.

If there would be way to objectively rank our >>Gurus<< then teams of experts for different fields can be formed to work on problems that are unsolved by big companies that would be also willing to pay such team, and part of this money could go to CR4 for organizing this.

I have found out that lot of CR4 members would be better off receiving some money then giving their time and expertise for free, and those who do not need money can donate their share to rest of the team who need money to survive.........

So, anybody new would first >>practice<< by giving free advices on problems posted, and when enough GAs are earned to get >>Guru<< title, then this person can join pool for team forming. I dont think number of post should be base for receiving such distinction, because such number can be gathered from one line posts that may even have no relation to problem posted. Constructive critic of some solution can be also granted GA, if it show that proposed solution is not practical or even possible....

Alternatively, problem could be posted to all in expert pool, and those interested to participate can >>check in<< to team that would be formed. But only members of team who would actually propose solutions or partial solutions for problem at hand would in the end be counted as Team members, and there could be some system of internal voting for solutions proposed. Objective criticism of proposed solution can help also, if author has overlooked some facts, and from this final solution can emerge.

Prize would be then shared either equally between team members, or half to best solution provider and half to the rest of team.....

I think forming of such >>Brain Trust<< would help whole World, and once companies find it useful, they would post more and more problems to be solved this way.

I know of examples where millions of $ were invested every year for long time and no results were produced, which could be solved by applying different angle of wiew or one little piece of expertise that was missing in teams that was working on such problems. It is usual that people too close to problem develop selective blindness to some aspect of problem, or went wrong way from start and farther they go, they are farther from solution they seek.

That would benefit everybody involved, and World in generall........

It is nice to socialize here, but still real potential of CR4 members are not fully used the way it is now.

Of course, nothing would preclude experts from higher ranks to solve >>ordinary<< problems as well, like they did before and how they do it now......

I happened to read one such rewarding sites- INNOVATION CHALLENGE[ some thing similar'] in which corporate companies present their problems and seek solution from participating interest members. Based on outcome, awards are also due to the right contributers.

What best can be done could be an established group of GURUs of CR4 who can provide a PANEL view at the end of forums and we can establish new solutions or improvements to handle existing problems.

Moreover even for the friendly advice / suggestion posts a feed back from benefiters will be a morale boost for the contributers.

I was member of IdeaConnection from February 2008, and submitted several solutions that were somehow >>lost<< or somebody else's solution was chosen (but solution is kept secret and we cannot contact that particular member(s) to prove they are not just made up names), so when I inquired about this, even whole my account disappeared, and they don't answer to me even my inquiries about this........ They also have nasty contracts where >>Winner<< in some >>Challenge<< has to hand over all their intellectual rights to them to do as they please without any further payment than >>prize<< given by corporation posting Challenge. Prizes are also symbolic, as compared to value of problems solved, and Members cannot know that all their solutions are not being used without any compensation.

Similar situation is with one other site called >>InnoCentive<<, so I believe that same system on CR4 would be more fair and would not take solution providers intellectual rights for free....

Also, if solutions would be published at least within group of experts that created them, or whole pool of experts that participate in working on problems, then everybody can learn from others, and whole group would benefit from this while quality of solutions would rise to new level, which would be still more helpful to companies seeking solutions to their hard and >>unsolvable<< problems......

I think it would help you to start a completely new thread or perhaps a blog? With the correct heading for the subject you need to discuss, IE: your inventions and or Licences etc.

At the moment on this thread which was started about GA's, almost any future posts from anyone will be by definition 'off topic', and a whole lot of off topic voted posts prevents the thread and posts from flowing and so members are reluctant to join in the discussion.

The off topic votes do not give a good and properly correct impression of you and others, and the discussion over all.

Yes I kind of agree. Politics are too big a part of all large companies, but, internal politics are also the reason the companies are able to keep going, with gradual change in the focus as time goes on.

Read the definition of the word 'Politics' and you will see it says "organised State". "Politic" is also about people and how they are used as a group and individually to accomplish the goal. For that there has to be someone who understands what is necessary to get from A to B to C........... and to keep focused.

That's are mostly books about old (better say ancient) versions of rendering programs, and while 3D MAX 2010 would be useful to me with its simulations of wind and daylight, I have paid version 3.4 3500$ ten years ago, so only God knows how much it cost today, and without money I cannot buy anything.

I was negotiating with a man who is supposed to be official representative of Autodesk, to donate some useful programs, but he has given me just trial versions that are not useful at all as they are stripped down to bare bones. Moreover, what they do (like ray tracing) is incorrect, I would say intentionally, so nothing can be really done, specially as there are no materials........

I got one supposedly good CAD program called >>Space Claim CAD<< that were requiring special kind of computer mouse, and has no simulations at all..... So nothing useful from that either.

ALIBRE DESIGN was on action for just 99$ (where normal price is 1500$) but I cannot collect even this 99$, and they refused to sponsor me in spite that they were giving >>2 for 1<<, and I asked that they give me one free copy in case someone don't need 2 licenses but only one. They refused to even ask customers if they would donate this free package.....

Generally what I need to be able to design and test is very similar to one ancient toy, which is called >>Whirligig<< (so I was told) but which we call >>Windmill<< in my country.

Unfortunately, I did not find one single program that construct do even such form, much less to simulate its behaviour and find out what torque can be generated in which wind strength. It is useless for electricity generation because it has no way to control speed of rotation, unless some mechanical system would be added that can keep rotational speed constant for generator unit. But as it is, it would be (IMHO)more effective than best contemporary turbines, as no wind can tear its wings apart.

I intended to start new thread about it, but I can post it here as well:

If anybody know any (specially FREE) computer program capable of designing and testing such turbines in wind flow, please let me know, would You?

I know that my turbine which work on similar principles as are used in creation of this >>toy<< is working, since I made little prototype, but for investors I need simulation of >>Life size<< Power station that can calculate all elements and print out engineering blueprints..........

If You help me, soon there would be cheap electricity from wind produced, and lot of it, since my turbine would use weaker wind that could be found nearly everywhere...

With lot of cheap electricity, price of fossil fuels would drop because of lesser demand and all products would be cheaper, while we would all save at least half on our electricity bills.......... With less burning of fossil fuels, less CO2 would be generated, electro-mobiles would be far cheaper for use, and because of mass production also cost less, so they would be affordable just like ordinary cars, and so on........
