i've a few problem about my thesis..

1) i'm not clearly understand about HVAC,HVDC and impulse test..

2) i really NEED a standard for those test..BS standard..because im going to do that test on insulator.

3) what a surface discharge means?.im not clear about that..

Still sounds like homework to me, but if you explain what you do know and what the questions are, someone might help guide you along.

Just don't ask us to do your research project for you.

1) Try a Wikipedia search, plenty of information there and a very good start. Also try a google search. Both places have vast quantities of information.

2) Again a Wikipedia and google search are good starts (and free).

Also try the British standards website.

http://www.standardsuk.com/

The IEC website (for European standards)

http://www.iec.ch/searchpub/cur_fut.htm

etc. If you need a standard you will need to buy it so make sure that you know what you want (ie- understand your topics first) before ordering as there are specific standards for just about everything. General information can be found on the internet for free (including test procedures to these standards to give you an idea which specific standard you may need).

3) Try a google search of "surface discharge" for plenty of information.

Lots of good information given above (don't expect the answers to just be handed to you here as this is regarding your thesis after all). Also look at previous threads on CR4 for more information (I think I answered the insulator question in a recent thread).

Please read the online Book High Voltage Engineering By M.S.Naidu ( can get on Google search)

He give IS Standards ( Beureau of Indian Standards) in that book. There are corresponding BS standards available. The book will give clear idea of the subject.

High Voltage Measurements DC and AC (Page No 157)

High voltage Testing

Disruptive discharge voltage Page no 322 ( IS 73 and IS 2099 1963 )

Also, check Spellman High Voltage's website. I think they have a document on HV testing.
