Firefox Won't Open

10/19/2009 3:23 PM

Hi. After re-installing my XP the other day, I installed firefox and now a day later, it won't open. When I click on the icon, it loads it into the system memory, but does only that. When turning off the pc, it says to end now for firefox. I have re-installed it but to no avail. I haven't done CCleaner yet, and haven't tried removing every firefox trace and installing fresh again. Any ideas?

It also has the same problem with IE 8. It seems to be since I downloaded the update.

Open Firefox in safe mode then enable one by one your add-ons untill you find the missbehaving one

Best advice is to go to a Restore Point that is before the date of any updating or installing the offending apps. Then try the re-install One Application at a time...

Also make sure that either Firefox or IE is the default browser. if neither is the default or if IE is, and your trying to load Firefox the this problem will occur.

The simplest manner to effectively use FF is disable IE.

Remember: Restart Firefox every time you enable an add-on to detect the troublemaker

Download pcdecrapifier and remove FF completely and anything else that needs to go like residues of the volunteer programs that sometimes include themselves in a O/S re-install.

When you reinstall the program will ask if you want FF as the default, say no. This contradicts my other post indicating disabling IE but not using IE creates a security hole.

Hi Bondy,

Not you again??????????!!!!!!!!!!!

I suggest you use Restore Point.

Are you able to make the firefox your default Browser?

Do you have a working email and what is it?

Is is practical to take windows back to its original set up?

Have you checked on how to get over the problem either on the Microsoft or Firefox

If you can link to any of these firefox help pages it could take you to the answer.

It also lists the firefox Knowledge Base, which may also help.

Get back to me/us when you have read and hopefully sorted a plan out.

Try fixing your registry CCleaner or some other program.
