Types of Pigtail Siphons (Other Than Straight and L)

10/22/2009 7:05 AM

An engineer fellow of mine is asking me about different types of pigtail syphons, all i can remember is a standard straight type and L shaped type, welded and screwed is a supplementary option (temperature range is upto 350 C and pressure range is upto 100 kg/cm2 as far as i remember).

Is there any other type or shaped syphon ??? if yes where do we use them, and what are the standards for that ????

The pigtail siphon was originally designed and used as the gage connection in steam piping systems. The loop in the piping allows for the formation of a liquid trap, which forms a barrier between the steam and the pressure gage, which then allows the gage and piping above this water trap to cool to near ambient temperatures. Without this loop and trap, the gage and piping would be at or very near the temperature of the steam and could be a safety hazard.
