hydraulic cylinder off an old 1972 hoe still running strong

10/25/2009 4:47 PM

cylinder on main lifting stick(approx 2.5 to 3 inch tube) cylinder is 6.5 " wide approx 6.5' long ("BIG"). Not a pro but also not afraid to learn. So it appears to just need forward seal/seals, tube is clean and in good shape. Here is the problem, the cover plate is not wanting to screw off. It is threaded,we can see the threads. It appears to be right handed threads, one keeper or set screw removed and two holes for I assume a spanner wrench, which I do not have that big of one.I used a large punch and ball bean hammer.I also used and air hammer both techniques were used with heat from a torch but not a rose bud.We worked for over two hours and this thing will not budge.HELP! If I can get this cover removed I think I can repair with replacement seals. All responses are appreciated (please do not call me an idiot and be mean as that is no help to me).
