Branch Connection

10/27/2009 1:22 AM

Hi to all,

I amd engaged in a project where i was asked to make a piping specification for Sodium Hypochlorite Lines. I have selected piping as per ASTM F441 CPVC 4120 and its associated fitting. I am confused in deciding the Branch Connection and Size. Say i have a header size of 6" where i want to draw a branch of 3" or 2", Should i used Half coupling or Reducing Tee? what in general is the criteria of this sort of selection?

Looking for a positive response here

Regards,

Sam

In terms of commercially available fittings, you can find CPVC tees of constant-sized runs (the straight-through part) and reduced branches (the part 90 degrees to the side). If you wish to reduce the header size downstream of the branch, you would typically need a reducing bushing. You need to examine the continuing flow after the branch has been diverted, and size the continuing header accordingly. (Pipe flow capacity varies as internal diameter to the 2.5 power per Darcy-Weisbach, and close to that by other formulas.)
