SEW Motors New DRS Motors

10/27/2009 3:05 AM

Morning all,

We switched from using the traditional DT/DV motors with the new ones (DR). But we are experiencing higher currents. We tried two scenarios:

1- Direct connection to power lines, with no load, currents close to the rated...

2-With VFD, when we go low with frequency to around 15Hz, the currents exceed the nominal and still, the motor is running with no loads.

We used to use motors of the same size, with the same VFD (old DT/DV), the currents where much lower...

Anyone experiencing such behavior with SEW DR motors?

PS: It's not just one motor, we tested several motors.

I thank you in advance,

Hi Wasaadeh:

You might want to follow this link and take a look at the various motor specs. from SEW Eurodrives.

I wish I could help you better, but I haven't worked with these motors.

You may have already done this but check ALL the parameters programmed into the VFD and ensure that they match your new motors nameplate values make sure you set/check all the parameters your-self don't use a set-up wizard or anything, certain things may have changed with the new motor, ie. nominal frequency, power factor etc.

Other than that I would contact my SEW Euro-drive Rep.

Hope you get it figured out.

I already sent a mail to SEW, with no response yet, just wanted to find out if anybody else is experiencing the same issue.

I just went through all the parameters manually on the inverter without the software, all seems to be configured correctly, still i'm getting high currents i,e:

at 60HZ i get 0.9 A for (motor power 0.75KW, 400V, 1.9A, 60Hz)

at 20HZ i get 1.8 A

at 15 HZ i get 2.1 A

and the motor is running without any load.

Thank you for your replies,
