Lifting a Low Alloy Steel Vessel

please any body tell me why the lifting arrangement like lifting lug or lifting Trunnion etc generally not recommended by Licenser for lifting of low alloy steel Reactor or vessel

Arrangements of this kind will impose concentrated loads on the vessel. It is possible for the original manufacturer to design and document such attachments properly, but not for others to add them in the field. It is better to lift such vessels by means of slings or chains that pass around and under the vessel, thereby distributing the lifting forces over a large area. Also pay attention to the angle formed by the ends of the chain or sling where they attach to the lifting hook; know and follow good rigging practices.

is this trunnion made to allow you to tip the vessel to pour out the contents? If so, it is probably strong enough for an empty vessel to be lifted. The strength might be affected by the temperature of the contents?

So a full hot vessel might not be liftable. If you wanted to lift a full hot vessel by trunnions, you should have specified that is the build papers

Many times carbon steel plates or pipe stubs are provided for lifting. This will cause intergranular corrosion. Alloy steel attachments can be provided at design stage.

for providing such type of attachment,it requires a proper calculaton,position,distribution of forces by the designer & also the proper heat treatments like post weld heat treatment,pre weld heat treatment,welding etc. otherwise formation of sudden cracks at such location may be possible..which may leads to huge accident while handling to avoid this licener doesn't allow such attachment............
