Surge protectors with Circuit Breakers

10/28/2009 6:45 PM

I was using an AC suicide cord to test the primary/secondary output of a trany that I think someone dropped and it had a dent in the primary casing. Before I clipped on the alligator clips to the primary I accidentally shorted my suicide cord. What a beautiful sound (3) surge protector in series all tripped and I did not have to go outside to my breaker box. The Transformer worked no damage but this I thing is a good idea to use surge protectors with circuit breakers did not get shocked LOL. And they tripped FAST baby I was surprised.

Are you sure you don't mean 'earth leakage circuit breaker' (ELCB) or 'residual current device' (RCD)?

If not, please give details of the surge protectors you are posting about. Manufacturer, supplier & part no. would be very useful.

Thanks in advance.

They are Power Sentry for home use for protecting a TV or whatever. No they must be thermal RCDs work great but it was so funny all three went off at once and fast nice to know when I start building my tube Guitar amp. Oh I am sorry you call it valve Guitar amp just kidding.

I think you are talking about what I call a "widow maker" cord (one with alligator clips). I just added a fuse to mine. It's a good idea to have a fuse or circuit breaker with one.

LOL Data that is what I had but (3) circuit breakers at once! I may switch to EZ clips safer.
