difference between smps & regulated dc source

dear friends,

can any body differentiate between SMPS (switch mode power supply) and DC regulated power supply.

Well, VA for VA, the SMPS will be smaller, Uncle, though a little more complex inside it. You'll find oscillators and other semicondictor stuff in the SMPS, where you won't find so much within a regulated supply.

A DC Reagulated Powe Supply consists of - may be, a transformer, a rectifier, filter & regulator.

Whereas an SMPS also contains a Capacitor Reservoir - which stores the energy.
