2000 SATURN MODEL LW2

11/22/2009 6:25 AM

I recently purchased a 2000 Saturn Model LW2. It has a very aggravating problem that I and others can't fix. When the doors are shut unlocked for over 5 minutes, the alarm goes off when they are opened. Although it's for added protection, I don't like it. How can I eliminate this praticular function without eliminating other functions?

In a lot of GM cars the security settings can be changed per the owner's preferences. If you have the car's operation manual, it should tell you how to change the security settings.

The owner's manual has instructions to eliminate the automatic locks on the inside when you are driving but doesn't list how to disable the problem I described. Sometimes, the frustration isn't worth the security.

Is this a factory option or an aftermarket alarm? If it is aftermarket, I would take it out. Most of them are pieces of crap.

It's a factory option. It's real aggravating. It seems like every time I turn around, tha alarm is going off.

You might try checking with Saturn; the L series has what they call a "Body Control Module", if I remember correctly. My understanding is that this module controls a lot of the functions such as the alarms, doorlocks, etc., and is programmable by the dealership for a fee. They can also be found on Ebay and other sources, but they'd still have to be reprogrammed unless the car it came from had the exact same (or very close) configuration as yours.
