Double Acting Actuator vs. Single Acting Actuator

when we used double acting actuator and when we used single acting actuator?

A single action cylinder only has power one way, must be returned by spring or mechanical means. A double action cylinder is powered both ways.

...so if the application requires the valve to change state in the absence of the energy source holding it in the other state, a single-acting actuator is required.

If the application requires the valve to stay put in the absence of the energy source, a double-acting one is required.

By application wise, Single Acting is used for On-OFf application

IF you want control or modulating, Double acting is required. It additionally require a Positioner too.
