Rapamune itself doesn't sound like a lot of memorable fun. But the important thing is, the studies show alzheimers could be treated by reducing the levels of amyloid-beta-42.

There may be other treatments (existing or to develop) that would achieve the same result, with a less horrible side effect profile.

Well here's something else that affects amyloid-beta and is promising in a stage 2 clinical trial for alzheimers: IVIG (intravenous interferon gamma). IFN-gamma is a natural product insofar as it is normally present in your body. Side effects reported here, rash, anemia. Not so bad.
