Pyro Devices

04/23/2010 11:56 AM

What are pyro devices? I was reading up on IR sensors and the terms 'pyro output' and 'pyro devices' were used frequently.

Pyro means fire. Figure out the rest yourself.

With all due respect Mr. Guest, may I refer you to this website:

Please learn how to use it instead of depending on others to do things for you all the time. Thanks.

Designed LWIR intrusion detectors (PIR's) for almost 20 years and primarily used this type of infrared sensor:

Also commonly referred to as a pyro sensor.

These are ideal for the longer 7-14 micron (human body heat) radiation. Pretty amazing what you can do with one of these, a $2 micro, and a little specialized signal processing. Of course the (far more expensive) FLIR imagers are a lot more fun to use.
