Manufacturers of Helicoid Forming Machines

04/23/2010 4:31 PM

Do you know of any manufacturers of helicoid forming machines? By helicoid I mean the flighting to screw conveyors. I want continuous helicoids, preferably compensated to have a thicker edge.

I tried several times to contact Lenham of UK (the only I have found), but they don't reply.

Considering how many different companies offer flighting, you'd think you could more easily find out how they make their flighting, or what equipment they use. We used to make our own grain augers at a place I previously worked, but we always bought the flighting. We didn't make our own. You may want to contact some of the places that sell the flighting and ask them directly. If they understand the logistics of your situation, they may be more willing to help. I too, only found a link to Lenham, but I'm certain that other companies also make this equipment.

Don't discount the poly auger flighting either. It is available with cupped edges. Grain damage can be caused by either steel or poly flighting if there is too much clearance between the flighting and the tube.

My company is an industrial distributor of spare parts. We currently import the flighting from Argentina and Brazil but, as there isn't a national manufacturer of continuous flighting, I think there could be a business opportunity in manufacturing them locally. I am still studying the case (and need the price of the machines) but it may lead to a leaner supply chain and lower costs by avoiding tariffs.
