I currently have a solar panel, Trace controller, large deep cycle battery, and plan to run a small inverter and plug all my small devices, mainly wall wart chargers into it to remove all that vampire power off the grid.
It occurred to me that I can go one step farther and run several voltage regulators and run the devices directly with whatever voltage they require, 3v, 5v, 6v, 9v, etc.
There is a plethora of adjustable voltage regulators out there, from LM-317s to newer switching regulators like LM-2670.
Can anyone recommend a good model that requires a minimum of circuitry around it(most only require two resistors) and has higher efficiency(some are up to nominal 94%, but most do not supply that spec.)? Higher amperage would be nice so I can put as many things on each as possible. Some are up to 5 or 7 amps.
I'm no electrical engineer, but fairly adequate with a soldering iron.
