Difference Between Corona Ring & Grading Ring

08/03/2010 6:37 AM

What's the difference between Corona ring & grading rings? Can insulator have both Corona as well as grading ring? Or it depends on the system voltage level whther Corona ring or garding ring will be provided on the insulator?

The ring you see after drinking Corona is called Corona ring. The ring can see after drinking each Corona one after one is called grading ring.

No idea of corona ring but guard rings are for making the voltage potential equal on lightning arrestors, other towers supporting HV with bushing. Else the discs electrically represented as capacitors will be having more potential across them which lies near to busbar cause failure of its very purpose. -Hit
