I need to make several charcoal buckets for bbq grills. The buckets will hold the charcoal and therefore be exposed to charcoal temps reaching 1200 degrees F.
What do you think about making the buckets out of stainless 304, 0.063 welded wire. I believe 304 stainless has a service range to approx. 1500 degrees F, but I look at how thin the wire is and start scratching my head over oxidation and such and think the 0.063 will hardly last the summer before disintegrating. I wonder if the roller coaster ride from ambient temps to 1200 degrees will ruin the protective feature stainless is well recognized for. I'd consider 0.125 material but I'm limited on tools to shape the material, not to mention the cost!
Thanks Tom
