Icarus

12/25/2010 10:00 PM

I have two dogs that I walk at night.

I need them to be visible.

I am looking for a compact LED schematic, that has a off and on switch and at least three different LED's firing off sequentially.

They are large dogs and Will not be affect with any thing under 600 grams of mass.

The smaller the battery, the better.

Thanks for the input. All of them help.

The main intent is for me to enjoy my electronics hobby, and actually make a device for each dog. I wish to have a different colour and flash rate for each. That way when I am in an of leash area in the dark, I know which one is where.

Thanks

use the bike lights, get two different ones, so you can tell them apart. Get the ones that use rechargeable NiMH AA cells = saves $$

You can also get the $2 ones that use button cells, also in red and green, not rechargeable, but if you turn them off when not needed they will last quite a while

You can also get the luminescent bands in 2 colors that will emit light for an hour or so after being in a bright light for a short time, also in several colors.

Actually, most bike lights use AAA batteries. I ride 2 to 4 nights a week dependant on the weather for at least an hour to up to two hours once DST is gone and change my alkaline batteries each season. (I run 2 different bikes, so that is 1/2 season or about 7 weeks per light) They last that long when run flashing, so the $$ savings from rechargeables takes a while to be realized.

Yes, less light = less drain, and the smaller lights last longer. Soon, the 3V lithiums will become a unique fitting standard and they will being even longer life, and may be rechargeable.

I have a number of chargers and equipemnt that uses AAA, AA, C and D cells.

For C and D I use the shells you put AA inside of so they fit, Less life, but a lot less cost.

NiMH D cells cost lots.

Just a small caution on flashing things - some dogs (more your pure-breed types) have the equivalent of epilepsy and may have erratic behavior or even seizures.

Trial anything you do, away from traffic and on a leash

They are used to pretty well everything, lightning, loud noises, flashing lights, power tools etc.

The only thing that gets them going is the house ring tone. "Ode too joy" Then the howling starts. Changed it.

Thanks for all the info. Have tried the bike lights and other items.

I will keep on searching for a circuit that I can build my self, otherwise where is the fun?

Icarus,

remember - don't forget your own lights, reflectors, flourescent jacket etc.

Stay smart , stay alive, the dogs will rely upon you as top dog(!), therefore you must pay most attention to your safety.

Good Luck

Sleepy

Any more noticeable and I would start to distract in coming air craft, from either major terminal, east or west of me.
