Sun Causes Climate Change Shock

08/30/2011 11:47 AM

"The science is now all-but-settled on global warming, convincing new evidence demonstrates, but Al Gore, the IPCC and other global warming doomsayers won't be celebrating. The new findings point to cosmic rays and the sun - not human activities - as the dominant controller of climate on Earth."

I seem to have one that's shadowing me lately. I don't think it's the report button. I also don't think they realize how much nicer I've become.

I don't think so..................and it's not something I'm going to worry about.

Savvy has been kind enough to personally let me know when I go out of bounds.

In fairness to the moderators, I have to amend my last post a little. It's not a job I would want, nor would I take.

Moderating this site is a bit of an art form. I'm sure the new ones read the rules and attempt to follow them to the letter. It takes time to figure out that that doesn't exactly work. Heavy moderation puts all of us on edge. While ugliness does occasionally rear it's head to the point of necessary moderation, the site tends to thrive most when we are left alone. As grownups that have a tendency to behave like children, we seem to be quite capable of settling our own disagreements.

Re: Sun Causes Climate Change Shock

"If the threat from CO2 levels proves to be greater than the threat from storing spent fuel rods, we won't have much choice but to go nuclear."

Kramarat -- The threat from CO2 levels may still be an issue but the warming of our climate, at least to the serious scientists, is a strong likelyhood. The effect on food production and what (as well as how soon) it will do to reduce human populations should be logically measured against the dangers associated with storage of radioactive "scrap" and the time frame for them to manifest themselves. Problem is the target audience for anti-nuke propaganda doesn't comprehend orders of magnitude.

"There are also some pretty smart people out there working on other solutions." (Recycling carbon dioxide into petrol; Sandia Laboratories)

Kramarat--- Where do you find this stuff? This is pretty neat!!

I do wonder what the thermodynamic efficiency levels, both theoretical and practical will be for this idea.

Also it seems as though the counter rotating rings will turn fairly slowly enabling a lot of scaling up in size. But there are early limits to scaling mechanical structures, especially ones that move. Orders of magnitude change do not play well in the mechanical world especially when you start to need civil engineers to get into the act.

I like the name of the system - "Counter Rotating Ring Receiver Reactor Recuperator (CR5)"

Hi Ed,

Take a look at some of these links. It's not here yet, but it is some pretty cool reading.

I was actually wondering if it would be possible to split off the oxygen and use the carbon as some sort of building material, or another good use.

It's stuff like this which muddies the waters and skews opinions on every side of the issue:

The Times Atlas of the World exaggerated the rate of Greenland's ice loss in its thirteenth edition last week, scientists said on Monday.

"We believe that the figure of a 15 percent decrease in permanent ice cover since the publication of the previous atlas 12 years (ago) is both incorrect and misleading," said Poul Christoffersen, glaciologist at the Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI) at the University of Cambridge.

"We concluded that a sizable portion of the area mapped as ice-free in the Atlas is clearly still ice-covered."

Other scientists agreed.

"These new maps are ridiculously off base, way exaggerated relative to the reality of rapid change in Greenland," said Jeffrey S. Kargel, senior research scientist at the University of Arizona.

That's the shame of all this.

Stuff like your link, climategate, intentional wrong information by Al Gore and climate scientists................where does it end and when did it start.

There's just no way for people like us to know what's really going on.

http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/shock-as-retreat-of-arctic-sea-ice-releases-deadly-greenhouse-gas-6276134.html

This will muddy the waters....:

"Dramatic and unprecedented plumes of methane - a greenhouse gas 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide - have been seen bubbling to the surface of the Arctic Ocean by scientists undertaking an extensive survey of the region.

The scale and volume of the methane release has astonished the head of the Russian research team who has been surveying the seabed of the East Siberian Arctic Shelf off northern Russia for nearly 20 years."

Only for those who insist nothing is happening because it's still cold on some days.
