Why do you ask?

Are they that unreliable you think you need a spare or are you heading in to a combat zone?

Recommended by whom? I would not recommend it. But then, I would not recommend that anybody buy a Hummer in the first place. I don't imagine anyone but the dealer has them, or would sell you one if they did.

If this is still the same speedo problem as your first post, you weren' very nice in that thread and I doubt that anybody here shares your pain.

Go to the dealer. That almost sounds like go to the devil, doesn't it?

I've got a spare 80286 you can put in the boot (oh, sorry, the "trunk" - you're from the far side of the pond). Alternatively, you can install it on a back seat - just make sure the seat-belt is secured.

Send a pm to KrisDel™ and they'll tell you how to contact me. AFAIK, they only take 35%.

If your backup on-board computer has Windows, you will be constantly be dead-stopping in traffic. The only thing you can do then is turn the engine off and reboot restart. Hopefully, you won't have to call for a tow.

Seriously, why would anyone but the dealer have the computer? It has programming on it that is very specific and proprietary; very closely guarded by the manufacturer.

It is not recommended because it is unheard of.

I guess that you could probably get an used one from a junkyard or some such.

Why? Is your current one giving you problems? The "blue screen of death"?

Try a Junk Yard or a "vehicle recycler" that specializes in electronic components, such as the on board computers, for vehicles. I have purchased computers for Jeeps at one of them.

Have you tried a junkie that specializes in Hummers?

Good Luck, Old Salt

Backup computer for anything is you. More exactly, the computer should be only an assistant to you, be a Hummer or an Airbus. DUH.

sounds like someone, has seen you coming, and thought lets take this guy for all he's worth!

OK, sounds like a good idea, if you apply the theory of "I carry back-up spare tire, so why not a spare computer"..... but really, is the computer really that unreliable??????

Are you going to, do you have the skills be able to change the computer if it stops working on the side of the road and re-program it? Na!

Hummer computers in the military version control a number of functions, one being the drive distribution, but it can work WITHOUT it.... so what's the problem as I am guessing you are not the (Ex)Governor of California, therefore you don't have a military one.....

If you really want a spare please buy it from a dealer.. they need all the money they can get these days!

I'm sure... you'll be back..

Yes, it look like it. Mind it, I have no stocks in either.

Boeing went with "control Assist", where original input went with some amplification factor to the control surfaces of the airplanes. But, in some limited sense, the pilot remains in absolute control.

Airbus went the computer control route. There, if the computer is down, the pilot is disconnected. Enough said. Think hubris.

Any car with computer control? For you, maybe. I still can shift, and slip the clutch right. It is fun, not sterile, IMHO.
