This does not sound that difficult to do.

Lasers that I have used in the past are from Preco Inc. and Trumpf. I am not sure if they have anything in South Africa but I am sure they would have a solution for what you need.

The only challange would be the speed you are needing. If what you are cutting is in reel form then the laser beam could be stationary and only turn on when the material feeds.

If you are requiring a cut across the feed direction of the material then the laser beam would need to move either by the cutting head moving or having deflecting mirrors. The deflecting mirrors would allow for a faster cut but would require additional components in the optic system.

Another thing to remember is that alluminium is quite reflective to lasers and could leave burring on the cut edge if no assist gasses are used. But I do not have experience cutting alluminium this thin. Most of what I have cut was 1mm-6mm thick alluminium and steel and various thicknesses of PET's.

I have been using Preco lasers for about 15 years and have found the equipment and their support to always be excellent. The machines we use are mainly for PET and other thin material cutting.

Just be warned they are not cheap but they are reliable. We are still using systems that were purchased 10-15 years ago.

My experience with the Trumpf systems is a bit more limited to cutting thick metals.

We have tried getting thin material (0.25-0.5mm) cut on a number of the commercial lasers & the cut is often quite rough compared to the thickness of material. We have had success using a UK company called Tannlin whose core market is cutting foil stencils for PCB masks. They also supply laser cutting systems, they don't mention the speed in their spec but the machines are optimised for cutting 0.02-1.0mm material. Might be worth dropping them an e-mail.
