Hmmm - The definition of dependable energy - ahhhhhh

Pumped storage wind, solar, and tidal?

Reliable fixed cost, absolutely no geo-political risk or hidden costs.

Talk about dependable!!! Put pumped storage into the green energy equation and that "dependability/reliability" issue goes away.

All of a sudden there is no need to continue with the " ain't gonna let clean water and air interfere with makin money" mentality.

i think it might be judged by the worst weather conditions over a certain number of years, 50 years perhaps.

That would be the energy that can be dependent on without exceeding the limited flow/volume during drought situations.

The output should be increased during good years.

For practical reasons the definition should be refined to only cater for say 80 to 90 % of the time and shortages supplemented by other means.

It may be useful article for this subject.

europa.agu.org/?uri=/journals/wr/97WR01713.xml&view

Dependable Energy capacity of a system of a hydropower facility is the load-carrying ability of the system under adverse conditions (Corpes of Engineers Hydropower Manual, 1985).

Dependable Energy is not an average annual energy.

Coastal Pumped Storage could use the ocean as the lower reservoir. No water supply problem there.

Inland - unless the upper and lower reservoirs are used for irrigation or water supply the stream flows only need to support evaporation and seepage rates.
