Pioneer Turntable Speed Problems

11/20/2011 9:39 AM

Hi guys,

I have a Pioneer PLZ92 turntable, which I accidentally put the voltage in backwards into (Like getting your wires crossed), and this was a 12v supply. The switch for the speed control now doesn't work, and the turntable spins up to ridiculous speeds without any governing of speed. Does anyone know what could be the problem? What would normally go pop when you put reverse voltages in?

Cheers

The switch for the speed control?

Check any capacitors that are in there.

On a visual inspection it looks okay, nothing is blackened inside

Can you check it with a meter? The resistance should vary, I think, at different settings.

Well, the good news is, that it sounds like the motor is alright.

I've got a friend that worked in an electronic repair shop through the 70's. I'll give him a call today and get back to you. If anybody would know, it's him.

You at least popped the led in the encoder with the crossed over connection.

Yeah. Regardless of what the problem is, he needs to run over there and get it.

Aside from belts and stylus, parts for those look to be nonexistent.

What's the plural of stylus? styli or styluses.

They both seem wrong.

I think that plural could fill a thread in itself

I was right on both counts.

Inquiring minds have to know. Cool. Now I can drive my wife crazy by making "styli" my word of the day.

Honey, do you know where I can find some styli? I need some styli now!!!!!

I'm surprised that there isn't a protection diode in the power circuitry for when a DC reverse voltage gets applied.

Hi there, I have what looks like the same problem with the same model. I have posted a separate question but it would be interesting to hear what solution you have found for this problem. I have just registered on this site but I'll give you my email address in any case
