Never cheat yourself of the chance to learn something. Do your own homework; think for yourself. Apply basic reasoning skills to all questions. Never lie to yourself or others. Make concise study notes. Don't cram with marshmallow puffs.

Since you joined us in 2010, you have asked some of the most, "interesting" questions I can remember.

There are no, "tricks of bring smart".

One either has the intelligence and the will to work very hard to learn how to assimilate knowledge that can make one appear "smart", or one does not.

Lazy people want someone else to do the hard work for them and then tell them the answers to let them appear smart.

Let's take your question: "Guys what are the tricks of bring smart, posibly super smart???"

It should read: Guys, what are the tricks of being smart,(insert space here)possibly super smart???

There, that's what a smart person would have asked. Actually, a smart person would never ask such a question. They wouldn't need to.

So, where that leaves you is on the outside, looking in.

Focus completely on the job at hand. Don't try multitasking.

Don't leave it till it is solved.

Don't cheat on it. Though may try to take help of text books some times but never a solved problem (Guide book) neither for a similar problem solved.

Understand the phenomenon, don't just read it and memorise try to understand what is actually happening.

Apply the knowledge gained thus wherever similar situation arise (even in different fields)

Ok Derick, now that you just had your backside stretched over your ears.....did you learn anything from such a question?

Super Smart is a gift from the maker. No questions asked, because you have seen it during your younger days in school, some people just pick the information up and run with it, and they figure out to make things work faster than average students.

So, for you to be super smart, you need to study more, do more research to understand the actual activity of what ever you are trying to figure out. But start simple, like how a toaster works, but don't try to redevelope it or make the componants, because that is a whole different field you will later need to understand as a physics major. It also helps if you have friends and parents who are wiling to sit with you and be mentors or just another set of eyes and ears to help you answer those questions in the back of the cob webs.

Most important factor is to take good notes, be attentive in your classes, be aware of the most minute piece of information. Sometimes we over think problems, Albert always went for the finite in his studies, he was never satisfied because there was always other factors involved in the answers of his questions.

So don't try to be like Albert, just except the fact, if you don't understand the question or the answers you find, do more research and find someone who you can study with to help find the answers. On here, you will find sarcasm most the time, and sometimes one of these brainiacs will just reveal the truth because they took a liking to you. or they enjoyed the formality of the question. Study hard and wise.

Re: Brainy

First, you need to define what you mean by brainy, smart and super-smart. These terms could be defined by performance on an IQ or similar type of test, by being well-read and able to converse with a lot of people on a lot of subjects, or they could be defined by a diploma in a difficult field of study like one of the 'hard' sciences.

Consider the IQ test or a test that can be correlated to IQ such as the SAT or GRE. If a person scores in the top 2% (within the expected population of test-takers), then he/she is often considered 'brainy' or super-smart. A Stanford-Binet IQ of 135 qualifies a person to join the high IQ society Mensa, as would a given score on the SAT, GRE and other tests. A key point here is the 'expected' population; a bright person with a poor grasp of English would struggle to get a decent score on an IQ tested printed in American Standard English.

Next, consider a person with a university diploma. The diploma might be in Sociology or Secondary Education or in Physics or Aerospace Engineering. There are certainly some bright people in Sociology and Secondary Education and some not-bright people in Physics and Aerospace Engineering, but on the whole a person with a degree in Physics or Aerospace Engineering is usually considered 'brainier' than someone with a degree in many other fields of study.

Now consider the person who reads a lot. Maybe that person doesn't even have a university diploma, but they read a lot across a wide range of subjects. He read books on religion and books on atheism; books on left-wing politics and books on right-wing politics; books on sea adventures and books on life in the ghettos; books about baseball and books about fabric making in medieval China. Someone with such a vast range of reading interests is often considered 'brainy'.

These are just 3 examples of 'brains' or 'smarts', but the question is: What kind of person do you want to be? How is being smart or super-smart important to you?

If I only...

Re: Brainy

To the point, you covered a very consice power factor to answer the question of his or to give more insight for thought. I think he was possibly referring to more on the hands on physics type of person? Yes, those who might be concidered smarter than other others would be those who are book smart and have the writtem text answers of the authors from books read. Given to their opinions as answers to research of their own proffesions. Then there are those who really don't read very well, but are great with their hands and have a gob of experience in developing, and physically creating with machines items of great wonders. And then there are those who are engineers and can draw with a great CAD program, and crunch numbers to their design.......but once on the floor, in the hands of a machinest, their drawings are bunk because they have never been at the machine to even know how it owrks, much less fabricate their own design drawing to what might seem ok on paper but worthless as a finished product.

Another point explained. Book smart is one thing. Practical application is way above being book smart because you have put to test the written word and actually found that the book is flawed, because those who wrote the book never really did the proper research to proove out their theory. Thus creating the rift in the physics world and the actual rehlm of physical applications.

To be super smart, would be a person who has studied the books, found the flaws in the books, put to test the written word, modified the writen word to actually explain the truth in all physical actuallities of a finished product. And learning how to be tactfull in slapping the engineer for not doing the homework in developing the proper drawing for the device to be manufactured correctly for its use in the big machine.

Common sence is a very strong root to being super smart. The knowledge one gathers and stores, and to put knowledge to work as gathered, to proove out a theory in your ability and studies, will help on the path of being super smart.

Another part of the puzzle, every human being born on this planet is born, brought into the world with the same amount of tallent. All beings are created equal. Being all brains have the same potential of being super smart. it will be up to the individual on whether they choose to use their brain or not to understand the world as it is presented to each person as they grow in life. Every being, as they grow is required to think cognitively to learn how to talk, walk, reach and grasp items. As we are presented with challenges in life, from the very begining, we are being driven to learn our surroundings in life. A person only grows and learns as they will for themselves.

Bottom line and closure, if you want to be super smart, sit back and do what is required to gain the knowledge required in the path of life. One must study as much diversity as you are able to really understand all. And there is no person alive on this planet who knows all at any one point in our time. You can put 100 persons together, all have a paper saying they finished the general requirements of their chosen disciplines in life. But not any of them have the complete cocise answers to everything.

The laws of physics are a baseline in science that have been agreed upon by those who concidered themselves to be above others in their time on this planet. It has been handed down as the ground floor of mathematics, which is the baseline of physical sciences in our time, modern man as he thinks. Remeber that, it is not the finite of life, it is just the beginning of knowledge to start from.

Why not take a look at the OP's history. It's fairly short. This may give you some insight into the motivation for the question.

Get some smart pills.

This story happened in Utah.
A carpenter had a young man working for him, the young man did everything wrong. He would hit his finger with a hammer, couldn't drive a nail in straight, couldn't saw a straight line......
The carpenter got tired of it and said "I'm getting you some smart pills"
The young man took the pills for a few days and one day he was rolling a pill around in his hand and it broke. The young man said "This looks like sheep shit"
The carpenter said "Now you're getting smart".

No compliment or disapproval intended towards Utah, it's just where they raise a lot of sheep.

Sorry if you are offended, I just liked this joke.

Re: Brainy

Derik,

If you mean to be smart, you have to do more than jargle. whatever that is. It's great to have a big chunch of ideas, but you have to weed out the nonsense by testing your ideas against knowledge and reason. If you can't tell a nonsense idea from a good one, you will never be smart.

A two year old asks their mom or dad if an idea has merit. Mom or dad explains. We don't get a lot of children on this forum, but we've had a few who wanted to work through and understand some idea, and they were well received and learned something. But they came with some understanding in the first place, not on the level of a toddler, but having already based their question or idea on their own internet or literature research.

You are going to get some ribbing here if you ask silly questions. Being smart means you are not offended by critical comments, because you are keen to examine your ideas objectively and without attachment. Do your homework first, and then explore an idea that you have identified as having some real merit.

Brainy? It's a blessing, and a curse. You're smart enough to get it, and trapped in a world of people who don't.
