Tide Measurement

How can I measure a tide at a particular point of time or else suppose am travelling in a ship of capacity 2000 tonnes it can handle the material, I want to measure the tide at say 50m distance from the ship, or at the point of ship where the ship stands.

You use a tide gauge..

That works on land, but not on a ship, which floats up and down with the tide.

Are you trying to measure the absolute depth of the water at a point 50m in front of the ship? Is depth beneath the keel acceptable?
