Diesel engine breather smoking lot but crankcase oil level no losing , what is the reason

As PWSlack suggested broken rings and others have mentioned possibly high hours, ok these are some instances, but we could go much further by knowing what you engine is exactly. Two or four stroke, Mfg, model, hp/kw rating, application?

When did the telephone call go in to the engine's manufacturer, what was the response and why has it been devalued sufficiently to warrant a posting in an international anonymous Engineering internet forum?

Is this engine recently overhauled? or is it due for overhaul? In case of new rings some times lot of smoke comes from the breather till rings sets in. In case of partial damaged rings also lot of smoke comes without loss of oil.
